When King Carl XVI Gustaf was born in 1946, he was the prince destined to save the monarchy. Just ten months later, his father died in a plane crash, and everyone knew the little prince would become king at a very young age.
In The King of Sweden, we discover his sense of duty, uncertainties and fatherless upbringing. We learn about royal tragedies, his dyslexia, accession in 1973, meeting Silvia and their secret romance. Based on exclusive interviews by court expert Roger Lundgren with the king, his family and those closest to them.
Roger Lundgren is one of Europe's leading royal historians and Swedish TV's expert commentator.
